21 Sep 2017 Rogue Traders Could Take Advantage of SEC Hacking

Filings in Edgar system eventually go public, but there is often a delay before publication when analysts say hackers could sift through information

A hack into the Securities and Exchange Commission is raising fears that filings from thousands of companies could be available to rogue traders eager to profit from market-moving information before the agency makes it public. 

The SEC disclosed on Wednesday that hackers had penetrated its electronic filing system.  It processes more than 1.7 million corporate filings a year, and gives users access to more than 21 million filings all told, according to the SEC.
